Bookflurries-Bookchat: So Many Good Books and a Whole New Year to Read Them

(from dailykos.com

Welcome to bookchat where you can talk about anything...books, plays, essays, and books on tape. You don’t have to be reading a book to come in, sit down, and chat with us.

May the New Year treat you well and even better than last year! May you make many good memories to cherish. I lift my glass to all my Bookflurries friends and to all who love to read! Cheers!!

It is the freshness of the New Year that is exciting, a time when bold new plans can be dreamed up. I generally would prefer the energy of having a new year in the spring when I could be warm, but with the calendar we use, and since I live in Michigan, I get snow.

Snow can be really pretty when it is first laid down and there are no tracks. It is a clean white sheet under a blazing sun that can blind you as it reflects. Heavy snows that cling to every tree branch and stem are lovely. Deep frost conditions can coat trees and make every weed a jewel.

The tingle of the cold air can be refreshing and as I child I rejoiced in playing in deep snow.

Thinking about all the good books that are coming out in the New Year is refreshing, too. I have favorite authors whose books I am waiting for eagerly. I hope to discover new authors thanks to all of you at Bookflurries. I have a pretty good TBR pile by the computer and my challenge books are in the picture above. I won’t go so far as some shirts that say, “Let it Snow!”, but it is a time of year when I can relax with big books and not worry about how long they will take to read.

I hope you found a book under your tree or received a gift card. Browsing is so much fun. I sometimes open a book and fall right into it. Other times it takes longer to grab hold. Once in a while I read a book because everybody is reading it and I don’t want to be left out. Most of the time, though, I read books that will take me away to a new world or an old world where I can watch interesting characters move about on the book’s stage.

What book is in your hand or near by that you are enjoying?

*Blogger's note: I just thought this was a cute article. Hoping to discover new authors is definitely on my list, as well as snowy days to be trapped inside reading. But this is the time of year where we can relax with big books and not worry about how long it will take you to read. I had already mentioned no books under the treat but two Barnes & Noble gift certificate. Besides my new cell phone, the best gift I got! I have blogged about this before but I read for the same reason i hope most of us do, and this blogger does, so that your book will take you away to a new world. All books have that potential. I am not familiar with this blog (another new thing to do in 2014) so hopefully I can share more from here. I will be checking back weekly.
