The director of the legal charity Reprieve, which provides legal assistance to prisoners at the Guantanamo Bay U.S. military prison, has released a partial list of the books censors have barred him from giving his clients.
Kudos to anyone who can sort out rhyme or reason in the list of books that are apparently banned at Guantanamo, which, via the Guardian, include:
Crime & Punishment, by Fyodor Dostoyevsky
The Innocent Man, by John Grishman
The African American Slave, by Frederick Douglas
Jack & the Beanstalk, by EM Naguib
The Merchant of Venice, by William Shakespeare
Injustice, by Clive Stafford Smith (who happens to be the director of Reprieve, who provided this list).
You can find the complete list at theguardain.com
