I won this book from goodreads and picked it up last night because I forgot I had it. I had such a good time reading it.
This is considered a "pulp" book. (If you are not familiar with the term, look it up). It was originally published in 1936.
It was the story of Detective Terry Lane and his search for what appears to be a serial killer. Rich men in town are being blackmailed then killed but with no leads.
As the next murder occurs, and Lane is investigating the crime scene, there is a note stuck to the door basically saying he is next to die. So Lane has to move fast and figure out what is going on.
You would not believe what happens next. (This is in the beginning of the book so it is not a spoiler). The killer or killers turns out to be a dead. So Lane has his hands full. And then there is the mysterious woman Dawn Drayden and Lane is not totally sure he if she is on his side or not. And Loup-garou is making things difficult for Lane. Loup-garou is helping out the killer or killers and is trailing Lane. Lane has to make sure he solves this crime before he gets killed himself.
It is funny to read a book from back then and this is my first pulp book. I loved it. It was not spectacular but it was a good read. The characters had a B movie feel. And I did not know what was going on until the end. It wrapped up nicely. I would love to read more of the author's works.
