This was such an amusing story. I had only read the authors "100 One Hundred Word Tales" so I did not know what to expect. The story was funny and I cannot believe the situations Maureen gets herself into!
At first I assumed she was a young lady. But she is a 54 year old widow. She is traveling to Venice. But everything goes wrong. The funny part of it all, and there is a British comedy, the name of which I cannot remember, that has a character kind of like this, who the same kinds of things happen to, and is about the same age. I could only picture her and Maureen looking very similar.
The best part is that Maureen thinks she knows so much more than anyone else and is so high class when she is anything but. You have to have no funny bone if you do not laugh at the thoughts she thinks about others when she herself is so clearly not perfect. And she just gets from one jam into the next.
I am pretty sure that I read Maureen has been features in a few other short stories. Now that I am familiar with the character I would definitely read them.
The author has a definite knack for humor!
