Reminiscing

When I was young, my uncle lived here with me and my mom and grams. I loved my uncle very much. He taught me how to light a match, drink beer, and other fun things. Then he went into the service and moved to Alaska. But he always sent me gifts for Christmas. I remember (and I think it is somewhere) a doll that the Eskimos made, all of real fur. I loved that doll so much. It was so unique.

But the best thing is he would always send me books. I was born in 1971 so he would send me Ronald Dalh who became my fast favorite. He also sent me Jean Shepherd books. Or at least the one I remember is Wanda Hickey's Night of Golden Memories: And Other Disasters . Or I am pretty sure, looking at Amazon, that is the one. And as I watch the 24 hour marathon of "A Christmas Story" I think that I am one of an elite set that knows "A Christmas Story" is actually a compilation of different stories in the book. It is mostly one story but there are elements of others thrown in.

As far as I know, Jean had written the movie script for this. I have to check on that but the voice over is what I remember reading. That wit.

Anyway as I think of my uncle, and days of big family dinners, no one is left in the family anymore, so we are starting our own new family. Today for dinner we are having over my mom, my sister-in-law and her husband and my 6 year old nephew who I love to death, my husband's cousin and her teenage son, and her ex-husband, and then when we are done we are all going over to my father-in-law's house.

So we are going to pig out and laugh and have fun. But I will be thinking of my books and Jean Shepherd and "A Christmas Story". I can't help it.

I hope you all have your own Christmas memories or are working on making some.

All of my love to all my readers and thank you for making this a great ride since I started my blog on November 2, and for all the support you have given me this month specifically. I hope you are all having a joyous day filled with love and fun.
