Miniature Books
So I have seen this a few times and I thought for book lovers, in a place where you may hang garland or a string of popcorn or something similar. I thought you can make a whole bunch of these, and make them with Holiday colored book covers, or even if you are really creative make the book covers festive by something like a santa sticker or a holiday drawing on them. I have a cathedral ceiling in my house and when you are on the top floor, there is, halfway down the hall, a half of a wall I guess you can say and there is an open space and shutters so you can see downstairs. My husband and I usually hang a string of Santas across the shutters along the bottom. It is hung loose so it drops down and when you are down stairs it forms a kind of half circle and looks so cute. I know it may be hard to picture. But this is what I thought of when I saw this. So find a place in your house where you can string this up! I know the kids will like it. Easy and festive.
MATERIALS
Colored papers
Craft knife
Cutting mat
Craft ruler
Scoring board with bone folder
Craft glue
(for those of you that do not really craft, I am sure for example, a regular ruler will work. Make substitutions where you can is what I always say)
STEPS
STEP 1
Cut 4-by-7-inch paper covers with knife on mat, using ruler as a guide.
STEP 2
Cut out slightly smaller pages from old or photocopied books, and fold them in half.
STEP 3
Place paper cover on scoring board. With ruler as a guide, use bone folder to score 2 sets of 2 lines down center of paper for a 1/2-inch-wide spine, with the 2 lines in each set spaced 1/8 inch apart. Fold along the 2 inner scores.
STEP 4
Apply a thin line of glue to spine. Press folded pages onto glue, hold in place for a few seconds, and let dry.
Pretty easy right? I hope you enjoy and find a place to hang a nice string of books up in your house for holiday decorating!
