T.C. Boyle Ends Three-Decade Run With Publisher

T.C. Boyle is turning the page: After nearly 30 years with Viking Penguin, the prize-winning author is switching to an imprint of HarperCollins Publishers.

Boyle has agreed to release his next two novels through Ecco, which also has published books by Richard Ford, Joyce Carol Oates and Patti Smith. Ecco announced Monday that Boyle's next novel, "The Harder They Come," will come out in March 2015.

"This is an occasion for my books to reach a new and ever-widening audience, a circumstance that every author, however successful, yearns for," the 65-year-old Boyle said in a statement issued by Ecco.

Boyle's editor and longtime advocate at Viking, Paul Slovak, told The Associated Press that he and the author's agent, Georges Borchardt, could not agree to terms.

"Boyle is one of the most imaginative and entertaining authors at work today, with a dazzling, exuberant, completely singular voice, and we have nothing but the greatest affection and respect for him," Slovak said. "We wish him success with his new publisher."

Starting in the mid-1980s, Boyle (whose initials stand for Tom Coraghessan) had published 13 novels and nine story collections through Viking, with a couple making The New York Times' best seller lists. His best known books include "World's End," winner of the PEN/Faulkner award in 1988; "The Women;" and "The Road to Wellville," adapted into a 1994 film of the same name that starred Anthony Hopkins and John Cusack.
