The Women’s National Book Association has announced January 10 as the new deadline for customers, sales reps, store personnel, or anyone else who is impressed with the work of a particular children’s specialty or general interest independent bookstore to submit nominations for the 2014 WBNA Pannell Award.
The award is presented annually at BookExpo America to a general independent bookstore and a children’s specialty that enhance their communities by employing exceptional creativity to foster a love of reading in their young patrons.
Nominations should be sent to PannellAward@gmail.com with the following information:
Name, e-mail address, and phone number of the person making the nomination
That person’s connection to the nominated store
A brief statement outlining the reasons the store is being nominated
Contact information for the owner or manager of the nominated store
Nominations are due by January 10, 2014, at which time a press release will be issued listing the nominees. Each nominated store will then put together an electronic submission with a description of its activities, goals, and contributions to the local community that involve young people and books. Photos, media coverage, letters from customers, and anything else that transmits the degree of contribution can be included in the submission. The Pannell Award jurors will notify the winners, as well as all nominated stores, sometime in the spring.
Each of the two winners will receive a $1,000 check and a framed signed original piece of art by a children’s illustrator during a presentation at the BEA/ABA Children’s Book and Author Breakfast, which draws more than 1,000 attendees.
