ABA produces a series of events throughout the year, bringing together world-class ABA Education, indie-favorite authors, and non-stop bookseller networking. Unlimited potential results when booksellers actively connect with one another and share insights and information. Booksellers acquire new knowledge, skills, and resources to refresh themselves and their businesses.
ABA Events
ABC Children’s Institute (April 6 & 7, 2014)
A one-day educational event dedicated to children’s bookselling, featuring sessions, roundtables, special events, and author networking. ABC Group at ABA members receive special pricing and exclusive admission to certain special events.
BookExpo America (BEA) (May 22—May 31, 2014)
Presented by Reed Expositions, BEA is the largest English-language book industry event in the world, with over 2,000 publisher exhibits and a wide variety of educational sessions. ABA offerings at BEA include ABA Education; the Hotel ABA, a specially priced hotel exclusively for ABA member booksellers; an ABA members-only lounge on the trade show floor; plus numerous networking opportunities, special events, and author autographing. During BookExpo America ABA holds its Town Hall and Annual meetings, and presents the Celebration of Bookselling and Author Awards Lunch. ABA bookseller members typically receive a limited number of complimentary badges and discounted admission to BEA; there is no charge for ABA Education at BEA. Various special events are presented at BEA exclusively for ABC Group members.
Events Specialty Institute (Date TBD)
A one-day institute for member booksellers covering all aspects of running events at the bookstore. The institute’s educational programming covers a range of topics for both seasoned booksellers and for those who need more introductory-level programming.
IndieCommerce Institute (September 19, 2013 and October 2, 2013)
A one-day focused event for IndieCommerce users, from beginners to the most experienced users, including one-on-one workshops with IndieCommerce staff. The IndieCommerce Institute will be held twice in 2013.
Regional Trade Shows (September through October, 2013)
At each fall regional trade show, ABA presents an evolving series of education sessions of topical interest. On the show floor, attendees can talk to ABA staff about general association information, and hear about new products and services.
Spring Regional Forums (tentative March through May, 2014)
Held every spring in conjunction with regional booksellers associations, the spring forums provide opportunities for ABA members to receive updates on the association's programs and initiatives, to voice their concerns, and to offer input on the future direction of ABA. ABA offers education sessions at these events.
Winter Institute (January 21—24, 2014)
An intensive three-day education program comprised of innovative education sessions, roundtables, author events, and networking opportunities with booksellers, publishers, and industry vendors. Exclusively for owners and staff of ABA member bookstores. Most meals are provided for a modest fee; ABA arranges for a discounted hotel rate. The 2014 Winter Institute will be held in Seattle, Washington.
