The Horror Writers Association is pleased to announce George R R Martin will be Guest of Honor at our 2017 Conference, to be held from 11-14 May, 2017 at a city yet to be determined. According to our rotation policy the host city is likely to be west of the Rocky Mountains.

HWA President Rocky Wood said, “While it is unusual to announce a guest this far in advance we feel George R R Martin’s fame dictated we release this information as soon as possible. We are excited that George will spend time at our Bram Stoker Awards Weekend and participate in panels, signings, the Banquet and other convention events.”

George R R Martin is a novelist and short story writer in the fantasy, horror, and science fiction genres, as well as a screenwriter and television producer. He is best known for A Song of Ice and Fire, his international bestselling series of epic fantasy novels that HBO adapted for its dramatic series Game of Thrones.

Even though Martin is best known for his recent fantasy he has written heavily in both the science fiction and horror genres. He received the Bram Stoker Award® for Novelette in 1987 for “The Pear-Shaped Man”, as well as nomination the following year. He worked as staff writer and then as an Executive Story Consultant for ‘The Twilight Zone’ revival series.

Martin has won six Hugo Awards, two Nebula Awards, a World Fantasy Award, and a World Fantasy Lifetime Achievement Award. His website is http://www.georgerrmartin.com/

The Horror Writers Association (www.horror.org), the peak group for horror writers, is also hosting 25th Anniversary World Horror Convention as part of our regular Weekend in Atlanta in 2015 (www.whc2015.org ). The HWA is a worldwide organization promoting dark literature and its creators. Started in 1985, it has over 1100 members writing professionally in fiction, nonfiction, videogames, film, poetry, comics, and other media.
