Review of :"Hello, Bali" by by Giselle Shardlow, Emily Gedzyk (Illustrator)

This was such a good book. I loved reading it as an adult.

It is 51 pages and it is all about yoga. It illustrates a family that goes to Bali and through their adventures the little girl of the family learns yoga poses.

The book does a very good job in showing a scene that would be similar to the yoga pose such a showing someone on a scooter and then showing a similar pose (chair pose) and showing people surfing and then showing the pose (warrior 2 pose). There a plenty of poses to get your child started in yoga. I have done yoga for years and I think this is just a great way to learn. Plus it is a healthy way to exercise and to get rid of stress. Kids have stress too! And you can do this with your child. I think it would be special time to spend with your child everyday.

At the end of the book are a lot of great things. First there is a summary of all the positions with the names and the illustrations of all of the poses. So they are all in one place to look at.

Also at the end of the book you learn how to count to 20 in Indonesian which is the language of Bali. The page is very colorful and you want to learn the numbers because of that.

Then there is a section of simple phrases such as hello, how are you?, and my name is in English and Indonesian. It shows two girls talking together. There are a lot of phrases and this is good for children to learn while they are young. New languages are better to teach to young children. You never know they may want to learn to speak Indonesian!

Then there is a great parent/teacher guide and a lot of links.

I cannot go on without mentioning the illustration. It is fabulous. It is very large and colorful and it keeps you interested. It kept me interested! So I would imagine it would keep a younger child interested.

I think this is good for children 8 and up. Just double check that. I do not know what the book recommends. I am going by my nephew who is 7 and I think he is just about ready for this type of book.

Overall this was a great children's book and I would recommend it to any mother's that I know for them and their children.
